Thursday, September 12th was a lovely day for an outdoor Chamber lunch on the patio at Iron
Horse. The attendees enjoyed the fresh air, networking, presentations and delicious food.
Lunch options were the BBQ sampler platter and strawberry salad, served by the Iron Horse
team. The customer service was top notch!
Businesses in attendance included Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile, Burro Flats High
Desert Lodge, Cliffview Chapel, Happy Horse and Dog Pet Resort, Healthy Kane County
Foundation, Kanab City, Kanab Museum, Kane County Assistance Program, Red Rock Livin’,
Ron’s Fresh Baked, Sight to Soul Photography, Southern Utah News, Stellar Vista Observatory,
Utah Department of Workforce Services, West Winds Ranch, and World Finance.
The program began with Chamber president Pat Guerrero presenting a Best Website award to
Chamber Secretary Don Jennings. During this year’s Utah Association of Chambers summer
conference, the Best Website award was presented to the Kanab Area Chamber of Commerce,
which was built by our very own Don Jennings. Don noted that traffic to the chamber's online business directory alone is well worth the $0.27/day it costs to join the chamber. Every business listing has an embedded Google Map, so users can go from a listing to driving or walking directions with one click.
The first guest speaker was Terri Henry, executive director of the Healthy Kane County
Foundation. HKCF is committed to helping residents throughout the county live their healthiest
lives through education, and health-promoting activities in Kane County. Terri shared with the
group some of the various Healthy Kane programs, from collecting fresh vegetable donations at
the local outdoor markets, to gardening tours and classes, to tai chi, more. Other things they’re
involved with include Family Fun Night, and the Kane County Health Fair and Flu Shootout.
Next up was Kristi Bundrick with Kane County Assistance Program. KCAP is a community-
based, non-denominational organization that provides direct assistance to residents of Kane
County and Fredonia. They have an online application for anyone in need of short-term
assistance such as food, utilities, gas or other specific needs. Since its inception in 2016, KCAP
has helped over 200 families and individuals in the great Kane County area.
The event ended with highlights from some of the attending businesses, and information on
upcoming business training classes at Southwest Tech’s Kanab campus.
